Wounded Warrior Run Raises $16,000 For The Walter Reed Warrior Family Coordination Cell

Bethesda, Md. (PRWEB) June 10, 2014

Thanks to the efforts of nearly 600 runners and 80 student volunteers, LMT Inc. and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Student Spouses Club (SSC) presented a $ 16,000 donation to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centers Warrior Family Coordination Cell.

On April 26, LMT Inc., a Vienna, Va.-based national security consulting firm, sponsored the 2nd Annual SSC Wounded Warrior Run at the Agricultural History Farm Park in Deerwood, Md.

We ran to care for those in harms way, said Lani Hay, President and CEO of LMT Inc. We ran for their families. And we ran to help those service members who have sacrificed so much and are working on getting well enough to return home from Walter Reed.

Its a cause deeply important and connected to LMT Inc., a mathematics optimization company that helps businesses and government transform otherwise ambiguous data into clear and actionable insight.

For the last decade, LMT Inc.’s team of analysts, many of which are military veterans themselves, have studied the narratives from the frontlines of military operations in Afghanistan to help predict and prevent military troops and civilian communities from getting hurt.

The race, which included a 5K, 10K and Kids Fun Run that wounded warriors and their families also participated in, was entirely organized and managed by volunteers from the Uniformed Services University (USU) of the Health Sciences and their significant others.

One hundred percent of the proceeds benefitted the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centers Warrior Family Coordination Cell.

We wanted to do something meaningful for our members and we couldnt think of a better organization to do that for, said Christine Kempsell, Race Director and spouse of a medical student at USU. We really couldnt have done it without the support of our sponsors and having LMT as the presenting sponsor took us to a whole new level.

The Warrior Family Coordination Cell serves as the central coordinating point between the military branches and commands for all non-medical support for the wounded, ill and injured military service members recovering on the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda campus.

That non-medical support includes working with patients and their families to provide opportunities for them to enjoy wholesome activities on and off the Walter Reed campus during their recovery and reintegration back into society after sustaining serious injuries or illnesses.

Since 2011, the coordination cell has helped manage more than half a million dollars in donated goods and services and coordinated and executed more than 4,700 events, including those at the White House, on Capitol Hill and with the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Thats more than Walter Reed Georgia Ave. and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth have done combined, and four times more than the National Naval Medical Center was accustomed to prior to the latest Base Realignment and Closure Commission decisions.

They also host weekly BBQs as a meet and greet for the families to get to know other, to get to know other people who are in the same situation as they are, Kempsell said.

Couldnt make the run? Donations are still accepted online.
