Cars now-a-days are not made like they once were, and when we see cars made many years ago we tend to stare in awe of the beauty, especially the parts that make up those cars. Many people will collect cars to preserve their beauty and show them off from time to time, especially in competition, and this is exactly what Al Maynard of Clinton Township did. Mr. Maynard custom built engines costing up to $ 100,000 and owned many one of a kind parts and components. His family has decided to give car enthusiasts a chance to purchase these rare items via an online auction.
The year was 1962 and this was the year where it all started. Al Maynard started his lifetime journey into competitive cars and became a member of the Competition Car Club. Al was very competitive within Car Clubs especially showing off his pride and joy, a 1957 Chevy sponsored by Standard Auto Supply.
In 1975, Als life was changed when he was honorably elected by MHRA to become the show chairman for the Detroit Autorama, and from then on accomplishments continued to pour in for Al Maynard. In 2002, Al was honored to be one of the 50 people to “Make a Difference” which contributed greatly to the success of the Detroit Autorama.
Al received many additional accomplishments in his lifetime such as being inducted into the Circle of Champions at the 2011 Detroit Autorama along with being honored at the Concours d’elegance of America show. Al also was given the honor of being the first person to have a registered class (Muscle Cars) to bear his name, an accomplishment that will never be forgotten.
Al Maynard bared knowledge of car parts and engines that would impress anyone, so much so, that in the 80’s, Super Chevy Magazine wrote a story featuring Al and some of his rare engines. With the passing of Al Maynard, he left behind thousands of auto and engine parts, with a large quantity of them being mostly new or like new. This extensive and highly sought after inventory of collectible and classic auto engine parts will be sold over a series of online only auctions.
These auctions feature so many great items that the entire collection will be held on three different days. The first auction (of 3 total) will take place via Orbitbid.com on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 and will feature thousands of items located at 3450 12th Street Wayland, MI 49348. The 2 following auctions are scheduled for May 20 & May 27, 2014.
These Featured Online Auctions will start at 8:00 a.m. and will begin closing at 6:00 p.m. the same day of each sale. Preview day will be on Monday, May 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as well as sale day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Staff will be on-site with free wireless internet access to assist in bidding if needed.
