DTZ supports Glenborough LEED Gold Certification Initiative

Monday, February 4th, 2013

Arlington, Va. (PRWEB) January 31, 2013

Arlington, Va.: DTZ, a UGL company, is being recognized by Glenborough, LLC for its contribution to the success in achieving LEED Gold certification at the property located at 1525 Wilson Boulevard. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, awarded by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), is the culmination of a longstanding commitment to energy and sustainability leadership for the 318,000 sq. ft. office building.

The building has implemented a number of far ranging and active energy and environmental sustainability programs under the leadership of Carlos Santamaria, Vice President of Engineering Services for Glenborough, LLC. The 1525 Wilson Boulevard building is the second Glenborough building to qualify for LEED certification. The first Glenborough property, Aventine, located in La Jolla, California, achieved LEED Platinum certification in 2010.

DTZ COMMITS TO GLENBOROUGHS VISION

DTZ has provided facility operations and maintenance services at 1525 Wilson Boulevard since 2008. Services include plumbing, electrical and mechanical services, and energy management, as well as general maintenance services. DTZ worked closely with both Glenborough and Chelsea Group, Glenboroughs LEED consultant, throughout the LEED certification project to examine and document the procedures necessary to qualify for the 65 points required for Gold certification.

There were only a few minor building system enhancements required since DTZ had previously supported the 1525 Wilson Boulevard propertys participation in the Environmental Protection Agencys National Building Competition in 2010. Several building operations and energy systems had previously been upgraded during this and other initiatives with an eye towards LEED certification. The building currently has an ENERGY STAR score of 93.

DTZ has been a partner with us over the years as weve upgraded energy, water management and other systems to reduce our environmental footprint, commented Michael Williams, Glenborough, LLC Vice President Property Management, Eastern Region. Achieving LEED Gold status on a 25-year-old building required the commitment of Glenborough management and investments in building systems, but it also required the expertise and dedication of the DTZ team to deliver the necessary results.

Glenborough has a vision of sustainability across the portfolios it manages, said Mr. Santamaria. We rely on partners such as the Chelsea Group and DTZ to help us realize our goals. For the Wilson Boulevard property, DTZ was instrumental in our success, not just for the LEED project, but also for ENERGY STAR and the day-in, day-out facilities management that is important in delivering outstanding energy and environmental performance.
